Friday Favourites: The One About The Toy Sale

Good golly miss Molly, this week has been drama filled. From being falsely accused of being a bully, to getting nasty opinions about how many times a week I bath my kids – it’s been dramatic. Regardless of the negative, here’s my favourite things from the week

Don’t forget this is a LINK UP! What that means is you can share your favourite blog from the week (if you run one), or perhaps something you have read. Just scroll to the bottom.

What has been your favourite (or least favourite) thing about this week?  Check out my five things:

———————————————-

FAVOURITE: Standing up for us all having a difference in opinion

At the end of the day, I’m a really open-minded human being. IDGAF what you do with your kids, but here’s what I do:

———————-

FAVOURITE: The Dough Queen

The amazing people over at the Dough Queen sent me one of their natural dough range plus their BioGiltter – which is a biodegradable and ocean safe glitter that you can add to your Dough Queen dough. My kids LOVE play dough, so I’m super chuffed to be able to have this in our house for them to play with.

———————-

FAVOURITE: The Warehouse Toy Sale

Every year The Warehouse have their annual toy sale, which means I get to buy my kids some birthday and Christmas presents early and stock them in the house. Both my kids have their birthdays around Christmas so it’s the perfect opportunity to grab a deal.

Have you gotten something for your kids?

———————-

FAVOURITE: EMCO

Emma, from EMCO, has graciously given me a full micro-blading session to get my eyebrows on point. It’s been a work in progress for the last six months as we were getting the shading right, but it’s finally perfect (I went chose to go too light to start with). Emma knows what she is doing and I highly recommend her.

EMCO Cosmetic Tattooing has all the details of her services here.

———————-

FAVOURITE: My Children

I’m parenting alone at the moment and my kids are just bloody amazing. They drive me insane but I love them with all of my heart. They keep me going when I feel like I just can’t do it anymore (being a parent that is).

Friday Favourites: The One With Fudge Muffins

This week I was finally vindicated! The doctor said “actually you’re sicker than you think” and my “it’s just a cold” ended up being a sinus infection plus something was up with my lungs. So I got two doses of antibiotics and my soul was redeemed for acting like a drama queen when I felt sick.

I did a whole heap of baking this week – Cheese Biscuits and the Fudge Muffins were the two most baked items. Check the links below for details!

Don’t forget this is a LINK UP! What that means is you can share your favourite blog from the week (if you run one), or perhaps something you have read. Just scroll to the bottom.

What has been your favourite (or least favourite) thing about this week?  Check out my five things:

———————————————-

FAVOURITE: My Parents

I love going to my parents house and seeing them. Not only because they keep me company, but because they have an amazing dryer. I get my clothes dried when it’s raining and it’s bloody fantastic. I am not embarrassed to say I still go to my parents house occasionally to get my laundry done HAHA

———————-

FAVOURITE: Pepper & Me

If you haven’t heard about Pepper & Me, then I’m here to tell you – you need to know about Pepper & Me. Cherie started Pepper & Me as a way to add food to her diet to encourage breast milk production. As a former chef and kitchen manager, Cherie has a huge amount of food knowledge behind her and even though I’m not breastfeeding – her products are bloody amazing! You can almost add them to anything and it makes the flavour of your meals so much more delicious.

———————-

FAVOURITE: Orange Is The New Black

It’s coming guys – in fact it’s out today on Netflix. Season 5 – start binge watching it now HAHA!

———————-

FAVOURITE: Flourless Banana Fudge Muffins

I had leftover bananas and a random tin of chick peas. The result was the most amazing fudge-like muffin I’ve ever tasted and I’ve already made TWO batches for the family. They’re a hit!

———————-

FAVOURITE: Lego Fidget Spinner

One of the days I spent with my kids I was a tad bored, so I took it upon myself to create a Lego Fidget Spinner. It’s probably my most epic achievement to date – find out how to make your own here!

Friday Favourites: The One Doing It Alone

Friday Favourites: The One Doing It Alone

This week my husband went away for work (he’s still away), which meant this whole parenting gig has fallen solely on me. Which is fine – I’ve done it before. Each time he goes away it gets a little easier to manage, plus the kids are getting a bit older. When they were babies and he went away it was really hard.

Here are my five favourite things from this week!

Don’t forget this is a LINK UP! What that means is you can share your favourite blog from the week (if you run one), or perhaps something you have read. Just scroll to the bottom.

What has been your favourite (or least favourite) thing about this week?  Check out my five things:

———————————————-

FAVOURITE: SAHM

Ronan was actually sick this week which meant I kept him rugged up, and at home. I feel so truly blessed to be able to stay at home and look after my kids like this. As much as having a sick kid can be incredibly difficult, I love looking after my kids when they’re sick – nothing brings me more pleasure.

———————-

FAVOURITE: Nespresso

When Phil had his birthday a few weeks ago, I surprised him by buying a Nespresso Creatista. This was a bit of a self-serving present as my birthday was the next week, and I really really love coffee haha … but this machine has changed our life. If you follow me on Snapchat (happymumnz) or on Instagram (happymumhappychild) you will have seen it in action. It’s not a cheap machine but it’s bloody fantastic.

———————-

FAVOURITE: Automated Lights

Ok so this is 100% all my husband, but a few months ago he bought these lights called WeMo lights, from Bunnings. Basically they interface with your phone and you can turn the lights on and off (and a whole range of other things) from an app on your phone. My husband somehow managed to get Siri (on my iPhone) to listen to a command and turn these lights on and off. It’s bloody fantastic. I do not care that it makes me lazy – it’s so awesome being able to say “Hey Siri, turn all the lights off” and the lights turn off. Again – if you follow me on Snapchat or Instagram you will have seen this in action!

———————-

FAVOURITE: Heat Pump

For 18 months we lived with an electric heater in our lounge. Some days it was so cold I’d have to turn the oven on to help heat the room. Since having a heat pump installed our lives have changed. My favourite feature is the timer, which goes on at 430am and blasts hot air into the lounge making it nice and warm for when I wake up at 445. Yes – 445am. I am crazy but at least I’m not freezing!

———————-

FAVOURITE: Westfield

A few months ago, Westfield asked me to be a part of their Monty Morning session in Auckland – to help bring awareness to this awesome monthly activity for under 5’s. It was quite successful so they’ve asked me to go down to Christchurch next week (30th May) and I am BEYOND excited! If you’re reading this and are from Christchurch – click HERE to find out details!

Friday Favourites: The One About The Doorbell

This week was actually really rough. Not just for me, but for a whole heap of people.

Whilst it has been a hard week, there have been things that have brightened my day … check them out here!

Don’t forget this is a LINK UP! What that means is you can share your favourite blog from the week (if you run one), or perhaps something you have read. Just scroll to the bottom.

What has been your favourite (or least favourite) thing about this week?  Check out my five things:

———————————————-

FAVOURITE: Snapchat (happymumnz)

I feel like I’m living my life through Snapchat at the moment. I feel so much less alone knowing I have people to chat to online like yourselves. So many people have helped me feel better about feeling helpless – so thank you.

———————-

FAVOURITE: Ring Video Doorbell

We were gifted a HD video doorbell from Ring to review, and one to giveaway. I absolutely love the security of knowing I can see who is at the door ANYTIME I want. When I’m at home, when I’m out … when I’m on the loo. ANYTIME. Check out my review HERE, and if you would like to win one, click HERE.

———————-

FAVOURITE: My Food Bag (Gluten Free even!)

This week is Coeliac Awareness week in New Zealand, and the team over at My Food Bag were lovely enough to send me a Gluten Free bag for the week. The way My Food Bag works is they send you five recipes (one for each night of the week) and all the ingredients you need to make those recipes. The meals have been AMAZING. It really is nice to know you can make food delicious even if it’s gluten free!

PS I have Coeliac Disease! YAY! (not)

———————-

FAVOURITE: Snacks

Snacks are life. Here are some snacks that are great for party food, but also to just make you feel better about yourself and life:

Friday Favourites: The One About Grapes

Grape Slicer from Amazon.com (this is an affiliate link)

Friday Favourites: The One About Grapes

Grapes. Fucking Grapes! Plagued my week again (only have myself to blame really) but I wasn’t putting up with it. Had a massive rant on Wednesday and got it all out of my system. I also got sent a shit tonne of stuff this week by PR companies because it’s Mother’s Day. If you follow me on Snapchat (happymumnz) or on Instagram (happymumhappychild) you will have seen me talking about these.

I feel very blessed to get the things I do, so thank you to everyone who sent them to me.

———————————————-

FAVOURITE: Grapes

Turns out I don’t like being spoken to in a horrible way and went on a massive rant … you can watch it here:

———————-

FAVOURITE: Nespresso Creatista

It was my husband’s birthday last week and we decided to treat ourselves to a new coffee machine. We’ve been saving up for a long time, so I went out and bought it and gave it to Phil on his birthday. It’s a self serving present though – I totally get to enjoy that myself HA!

———————-

FAVOURITE: Mother’s Day Gift Guide

I put together a list of some of my favourite things ever in case you need some help this Mother’s Day (for you OR for your partner).

You can check it out here:

———————-

FAVOURITE: Karaoke

I had a really awesome time on Wednesday singing ridiculous songs to make me feel better about the whole Grape saga. I posted one over on Instagram …

Friday Favourites: The One With Anika Moa

Friday Favourites: The One With Anika Moa

After having a few weeks off thanks to the school holidays, it’s back into the swing of things. This week Chloe went back to School and TODAY Ronan starts KINDERGARTEN. Holy sh’t … that’s actually insane. So for one day a week, I’ll have the day to myself.

This first week back has been full of emotion for me as I had some pretty exciting and interesting things happen …

Don’t forget this is a LINK UP! What that means is you can share your favourite blog from the week (if you run one), or perhaps something you have read. Just scroll to the bottom.

What has been your favourite (or least favourite) thing about this week?  Check out my five things:

———————————————-

FAVOURITE: Anika Moa

Anika Moa (and her lovely wife / producer Natasha Utting) invited myself to be on Anika’s show. Anika has her own show on Maori Television called “All Talk With Anika Moa“. I was nervous as heck, but Anika did what she does best and made myself and Emily (from Emily Writes) feel extremely relaxed.

Can’t wait to see how the show came out. Keep an eye on my Facebook page for details next week …

3 awesome mamas so much funny! #alltalkwithanikamoa

FAVOURITE: Grapes

I love grapes, and I’m over cutting grapes up. So when I posted earlier this week about how I don’t cut my kids grapes up, and GASPED, it caused a bit of drama. I meant no disrespect, but people got offended.

You can read all about Grapegate here, and then here …

And then naturally I followed it up with 24 gaspworthy things about my life … HERE.

———————-

FAVOURITE: The Parenting View

Finally got my A into G and created a group on Facebook for parents to come and chat about all things parenting. You can be a grandparent, a step parent, a solo parent or anything in between that’s parenting related and you’re welcome to join!

No vaccination posts. No medical posts. The Parenting View is like a coffee group where you can chat about the ins and outs of parenting. Come and join the group!

———————-

FAVOURITE: Friends

When I was at the Anika Moa show, a few friends of mine showed up to surprise me and sat in the audience. I was so unbelievably chuffed that they did that. So I wanted to give a wee shout out to:

Lisa Stirling from No Filter Mum
Lisa Hays from Owl & Monkey

Thank you ladies so much – it meant the world to me that you came along.

———————-

FAVOURITE: Ronan Starting Kindy

It’s going to be hard seeing him gone for one day a week but honestly this kid needs it. He needs extending beyond what I can offer him and Kindergarten is going to do that for him.

I feel very confident in the place he is going to, and because he had Chloe ahead of him, he knows what he’s going in to.

I’m nervous, scared and EXCITED for him all at once …

Friday Favourites: The One About The Coffee

© Maria Foy | Happy Mum Happy Child

Friday Favourites: The One About The Coffee

I felt like this was a bit of a meh week. The second to last week before school holidays and I am seriously lacking motivation. I posted a few blogs this week (whoopty do) and performed a science experiment (wtf Maria?!). We all had a PJ day when Chloe was sick and it was actually quite fabulous. Ultimately though, I’m tired. Bloody tired haha

Don’t forget this is a LINK UP! What that means is you can share your favourite blog from the week (if you run one), or perhaps something you have read. Just scroll to the bottom.

What has been your favourite (or least favourite) thing about this week?  Check out my five things:

———————————————-

FAVOURITE: Coffee

Did you know you can’t burn instant coffee? Well not unless you physically lit it on fire … read all about how burning instant coffee with boiling water is some-what of a myth …

———————-

FAVOURITE: The Lego Batman Movie

Last weekend I went off to a preview of The Lego Batman Movie and I was not disappointed! It’s out in cinemas now, and you can read all about my experience and what I thought of the movie here

———————-

FAVOURITE: My Nutri-Ninja

A while back I got sucked into one of those TV Infomercials, and bought myself the Nutri-Ninja. It’s quite possibly one of the most used appliances in my house and I LOVE it! If you follow me on Snapchat (happymumnz) you will see I’ve been using it to make Meatballs and it’s SO freaking easy!

———————-

FAVOURITE: 3am Wakeup

Who am I kidding, waking at 3am for the day is quite possibly the worst, but it gave me an opportunity to smash out a whole heap of stuff. Lunches got done. Hair was washed. Laundry done. Coffee consumed. All before 5am. Was rather proud of myself.

The nap I had later in the day was also pretty epic. Thank god my 3 year old still has a day sleep!

Friday Favourites: The One With The Meet Up

Friday Favourites: The One With The Meet Up

This week was a pretty epic week for me. I worried for half the week that no one would show up to my Westfield meet up, and was so chuffed when so many people did. I have no idea of the exact numbers, but we had a tonne of fun. Well I did – Ronan got a bit bored after 5 minutes but he’s only 3. 5 minutes is like 10 years in kid time.

Don’t forget this is a LINK UP! What that means is you can share your favourite blog from the week (if you run one), or perhaps something you have read. Just scroll to the bottom.

What has been your favourite (or least favourite) thing about this week?  Check out my five things:

———————————————-

FAVOURITE: Books On The Bus NZ

Jade from Books On The Bus NZ contacted me this week to tell me all about this amazing initiative that she started in January. Her aim is to place new and used books in public transport systems across New Zealand.

Check out the New Zealand Herald Article here:

Surplus books take a new ride on public transport system – National – NZ Herald News

A reading service in the UK and the US aimed at turning commuters into bookworms is hitting New Zealand trains and buses. Auckland digital marketer Jade-Ceres Munoz is hoping to share her love of books…

———————-

FAVOURITE: Custom Keepsakes

This week I finally found my necklace that Custom Keepsakes made for me – it’s two discs and on each disc is my child’s name and their birth date. Lois runs Custom Keepsakes and she does hand-stamped jewellery and other amazing things.

Be sure to check out her website here.

———————-

FAVOURITE: New World Easter Hunt App

Honestly, I was asked by New World to talk about the New World Epic Easter Hunt app but it is SO much fun that I had to add it in here. You download an app and use it to walk around the shop and collect virtual eggs. The kids had SO much fun and both times I’ve done it have been the easiest shops ever – the kids are so distracted that I can actually think about what I’m doing. AWESOME!

To download the app and find more about how it works, visit their website:
http://www.newworld.co.nz/promotions/epic-easter-hunt-app/

———————-

FAVOURITE: Westfield Monty Morning Session

The team over at Westfield Manukau invited me to attend their Monty Morning Session this week, and I had SUCH a blast meeting everyone. Mums and Dads came from all over with their kids to have a tonne of DUPLO fun, and decorate cookies.

Each month Westfield hosts a Monty Morning session at different Westfield’s around New Zealand. This is FREE for kids under 5 and always involves heaps of DUPLO and an activity to keep your kids amused. To find out more details about this, visit the Monty’s World Website.

FAVOURITE: Friday

Thank god it’s Friday. Sometimes I wish my husband would take a week off work to surprise me hahaha oh I can dream!

Friday Favourites: The One About Feeling Blah

© Maria Foy | Happy Mum Happy Child

Friday Favourites: The One About Feeling Blah

I’ve felt really blah this week. Probably because I’m not eating properly. I’m eating shit, I’m not drinking enough water, and I’m hard on myself mentally. Never a good sign. Tomorrow is Chloe’s birthday party – she turned 5 in December but we never did anything about it because we’re lazy and it was December. Way too close to Christmas for our liking. Finally it’s upon us and we’re all a little nervous as to how it will go!

Don’t forget this is a LINK UP! What that means is you can share your favourite blog from the week (if you run one), or perhaps something you have read. Just scroll to the bottom.

What has been your favourite (or least favourite) thing about this week?  Check out my five things:

———————————————-

FAVOURITE: Siku World

We scored some awesome Siku World sets from Trade Me this week for only $60. If you are familiar with Siku, you will know they are amazing quality toys, but can be expensive the bigger they get. So TWO sets for $60 is an absolute steal.

Scored TWO big @siku_nz sets from Trade Me for $60. The kids have fought over them so much 🤣😳

A post shared by Maria (@happymumhappychild) on

FAVOURITE: Ronan’s Haircut

If you follow me on Snapchat (happymumnz) you would have seen that yesterday I took Ronan to Just Cuts in Sylvia Park. It’s the first time he’s officially had his hair cut, and I was impressed! The women there were fantastic, and the fact they had a cute little cape and a dvd for him to watch was just beyond amazing. He sat still like a gem and let his hair be cut.

Prior to this, I did it myself. When Chloe was his age, she screamed the whole time her hair was cut. So naturally we were really apprehensive about ever going again. Thank goodness Ronan is a chilled out little dude!

———————-

FAVOURITE: The Lowdown Series

This week (and last) I started a series called “The Lowdown” – basically it’s where I give the lowdown on a topic. I have covered Poo Disposal, Cloth Nappies and our Grocery Bill. Be sure to keep an eye out on more of these – a new one each week!

———————-

FAVOURITE: OOB Oobie Joobie Ice Cream

We got sent a container of the new OOB Oobie Joobie Ice Cream. It was a HIT with 2/3 of us. I can’t say it was a 3/3 only because my boy looked at me like “WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE ME EAT” … I think he would have eaten it if he’d truly understood the gravity of what was in front of him.

OOB is a 100% organic ice cream – so the jubes in the newest one are also organic. Basically it’s like Goodie Goodie Gum Drops – but organic. And bloody delicious!

———————-

FAVOURITE: My Kids

My kids push me to the brink of insanity but they also push me to discover myself. This week my 5 year old asked me so many questions and told me so many things that I thought my brain would explode. I’ll let you know what exactly they are later on, but for now just believe me when I say “I cannot believe the things that came out of my 5 year olds mouth this week” …

Friday Favourites: The One About Wellington

© Maria Foy | Happy Mum Happy Child

Friday Favourites: The One About Wellington

This week I was fortunate enough to be able to head to Wellington for a few days, to attend Emily Writes’ book launch. I loved this time away, but I missed my family incredibly. Coming back was a bit difficult, as I always feel a little out of it (I’m a routine gal) … but looking back on the week, I have nothing but positives coming to mind.

Don’t forget this is a LINK UP! What that means is you can share your favourite blog from the week (if you run one), or perhaps something you have read. Just scroll to the bottom.

What has been your favourite (or least favourite) thing about this week?  Check out my five things:

———————————————-

FAVOURITE: Wellington

I was fortunate enough to be able to travel to Wellington this week to attend a couple of book launches of Emily Writes’, and also to have a moment to myself. Wellington really put on a couple of amazing days, and for that I was truly grateful. I walked around a whole heap and checked out some stores I might never normally get to see – one of my favourites was Moore Wilsons. What a freaking amazing store and I was SO impressed with their toy section. Actually was blown away by it.

The view from my room is just stunning. Wellington you are a beautiful (and windy) creature ❤

FAVOURITE: Smaak Portable Charger

I walked around quite a bit and used my Google Maps app on my phone … and my Snapchat app … and my Facebook app. So my phone’s battery depleted within a matter of hours. It was on 1% when I was about to walk back home, so I was frantically trying to memorise the map on where to walk back … then I remembered I had this brilliant portable charger in my bag. The kind folks sent me one of these late last year, and I had charged it up, popped it in my bag and then completely forgotten about it.

I plugged it in, and instantly my phone battery picked up a whole heap – THANK GOODNESS! Saved my life haha

FAVOURITE: The Tile

This has been a favourite of ours for a while now. Last year we got sent it and I gave it to my husband – because he’s the one who needs it HA! Essentially The Tile is a bluetooth device that you attach to your keys (or pop in your wallet), and if you misplace them, you just use your phone to find them. Believe me when I say my husband misplaces his keys ALL the time. And his wallet. AND they’re usually both in the same place together – hiding from him. So The Tile has been a godsend because it means he doesn’t panic.

Also, it has a reverse function on it – so if I hold The Tile in my hand, I can press it and it’ll make a sound on the phone. Perfect for scaring the shit out of him at 6am in the morning HAHAHA!

FAVOURITE: The Rydges Wellington

The real reason I booked the The Rydges was because their duvet covers looked fluffy. Seriously that’s it. I really appreciate a good duvet cover – none of this “single sheet” for a cover shit. I love fluffy heavy blankets. However, I got way more than I bargained for. I got an amazing view, friendly staff, to-die-for buffet breakfasts and overall a pretty awesome experience. If I ever go back to Wellington, I’m definitely heading there again. Thank you Rydges Wellington – had a blast with ya!

FAVOURITE: My Husband

Some of you will remember but Phil has just spent almost 2 weeks away in South America. The day he came home was the day I left for Wellington. So we didn’t get to see each other, and he had to jump straight into the parenting role alone (although we do have loads of family to help). I was in awe of what he was able to do and I think he is absolutely amazing. He always surprises me in situations like these – and I know the kids had a huge amount of fun with him. Thank you Phil for really stepping up – especially when you were tired after such a long trip.
