Movie Review: Red Sparrow

———————————————————

I was very fortunate to be invited to an amazing screening of Red Sparrow.

Jennifer Lawrence plays Dominika – an injured ballerina who has to turn to a different life to help herself and her mother survive. She ends up in Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains exceptional young people to use their minds and bodies as weapons. She then emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow after completing the sadistic training process. As she comes to terms with her new abilities, Dominika meets a CIA agent who tries to convince her that he is the only person she can trust.

I personally LOVE movies like this – female roles that show power and a woman succeeding. I went into it not knowing too much (as I like to prefer to do), and was not disappointed at all.

Jennifer Lawrence did an amazing job in her role, as did Joel Edgerton. I was thoroughly involved throughout the whole movie with the relationship of these two, and for the most part loved every scene.

There’s a lot of nudity and a couple of sex scenes in it, so the rating is high for a reason. Plus ONE OTHER reason which I will touch on below …

I would have given it a full 5/5 if it wasn’t for TWO things … 1) I wanted more action scenes with Jennifer, and 2) the gore was a little over the top, specifically in the last scene with Joel & Jennifer.

It was a little too much in my opinion, but I understood why they needed it.

As always, I highly recommend you seeing the movie for yourself and forming your own opinion on it. As human beings we all think differently and enjoy different things in life.

Thank you to 20th Century Fox for inviting me to see this movie – truly appreciate it.
