Me Time

Me Time

What is this “me time” thing you speak of Maria? As a parent there’s almost no such thing!

Well I’m here to tell you that “me time” isn’t a myth. Nope. You can achieve Me Time just by taking a step back and looking for those moments in your day when you can take a breath.

Sneaking in “Me time” doesn’t necessarily mean heading out to get a massage, or going to a movie, or even taking a trip somewhere. Think smaller – think “me time” at home.

Here are the ways I fit “me time” into my day:

————————–

1. I GET UP EARLY
Every single morning before the kids wake up, I have a coffee and watch Netflix and do work.

2. AFTER BREAKFAST
Once the kids are changed and ready for the day, sometimes I put the TV on and then sit down to browse Facebook for 5 mins. I might also have another coffee (I love my coffee).

3. MANDATORY MORNING TEA
I have mandatory “morning tea” me time where the kids can do whatever they want, but I get a few mins peace to myself (doesn’t always work but I try!)

4. NAPS
My kids still nap, which is instant “me time” no matter what I do. Scratch that, they don’t nap anymore dammit.

5. GOING TO THE TOILET
I’ll lock the door and pretend I’m going, just so I can have some alone time. Although we all know that’s not how it works most of the time … because the kids realise you’re gone and scream bloody murder until you show your face.

6. ASK FOR HELP
Sometimes I actually just say “hey I can’t do it right now and I need a break”. So Phil (my husband) will step in and give me some “me time”. He often takes the kids out for a walk, or visit a playground, so that I can have a few extra minutes of binge time watching Netflix LOL.

7. END OF THE DAY
At the end of the day, if I am able to stay awake, then I also try and have “me time”. Usually this is in front of the TV with Phil, and we pick a show on Netflix to watch HAHA

————————–

Not sure if you noticed, but Netflix features a lot above there. If you guys follow me on Snapchat (happymumnz), you will know I watch a huge amount of it. I am a member of the Netflix Streamteam, but I honestly have LOVED Netflix for a very very long time.

Netflix is often my escape from reality. A way to calm my mind.

I constantly have it on in the background whenever I’m doing any work. It really brings me comfort watching a show and feeling a different emotion to whatever it is with my kids during the day.

If you’re looking for things to watch I have a few amazing lists: My Netflix Suggestions, My Netflix Suggestions (Part 2) and What’s On My List.

How do you sneak in your “me time”?
