Making Breakfast More Exciting

Making Breakfast Exciting by Happy Mum Happy Child
Sometimes a bowl of cereal, or a piece of toast can be unappealing to a child. So here are 5 tricks I’ve learned to make breakfast more exciting:

1.  Change the vessel
Try using plastic cups, cupcake wrappers, shot glasses or even egg cups to put their food in.

2.  Variety
Spice things up a bit with the food and give them options, such as:

  • Cereal
  • Fresh Fruit
  • Dried Fruit (apricots, raisins, etc)
  • Yoghurt
  • Toast
  • Omelette (cut into small squares)

3.  Get them involved
Ask them to help prepare breakfast, and ask them what they want to eat.  Often just the act of involving them builds up the excitement.

4.  No Milk
If your child is used to having milk with their cereal, try removing it.  Just having dried cereal is fun for children.  My daughter often pours the cereal onto the floor and plays a game with it.  Also, by keeping it dry, it means if it is not eaten straight away, it can be left for them to pick at over the day.

5.  Have fun
As an adult, all we think about is “food food food”, but children look at the world from a different perspective.  So try to put yourself in their shoes.

If you have had success with other ways of getting your children to eat breakfast, leave a comment and tell us what you do.  This page is all about support and sharing 🙂
