First Time For Everything
Well there’s a first time for everything, right?! Today was one of those days …
It might sound strange, but my kids don’t really stay for long periods of time at other people’s houses. Not even my parents or my in-laws. Maybe 2 hours MAXIMUM, but that’s it.
It’s not that I don’t trust people, it’s just there’s never been a reason for the kids to be away for any length of time. ALSO – some part of me always felt guilty (and still does) about leaving them with other people when they are a) sick or b) don’t sleep well. And they didn’t sleep well for a VERY long time.
The only time my 4 year old girl has ever spent a night at someone else’s house, was when I gave birth to our son HAHA … and even then I was reluctant because she still didn’t sleep through the night.
My kids are now 2 and 4 and sleep pretty well during the day / night, and haven’t been sick for a while, so I thought “why not let them stay for the whole day at Gran’s house”. My daughter has been ITCHING to do it – and gets annoyed at me when I pick her up after only an hour. So this was a HUGE treat for her. My 2 year old still has a day sleep … but my parents have spare beds, so he was also excited.
They loved it. And I knew they would.
I dropped them off at 8.30am, and I had a great time too – two loads of washing, vacuumed, did a whole heap of work, posted stuff and even picked up my new pair of glasses (as you may have seen on my Snapchat: happymumnz) …
My girl was annoyed when I picked her up at 4pm, because it wasn’t “long enough” ????
I know it is weird that we haven’t sent our kids away to stay for long periods of time, at other people’s houses, but it’s really never worked for us until now.
I am very lucky in the fact that both my parents AND my in-laws have a great relationship with the kids. I can drop them off to them in a heart beat and the kids will be fine. It’s just never been for more than a couple of hours!
Do your kids stay at other’s houses for any decent length of time?
