Cloud dough is super simple to make, and will provide your child with hours of fun. I used this for both my almost 3 year old and my 9 month old, and they loved it. It is called “dough” but it is more of a sand than a dough. Normal dough tends to stick together and you can roll it out. While you can roll Cloud Dough out, this is more crumbly. But does hold its shape…
INGREDIENTS:
4 cups flour (I used white)
1/2 cup oil (I used vegetable oil, but you can use baby oil too)
DIRECTIONS:
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl until the consistency is enough that the flour slightly holds together when pressed.
THINGS TO DO:
I usually give my kids a whole heap of baking utensils, cups, bowls, trays, funnels – anything you think they might use to play with the dough. With the 9 month old, I just put a mat down, gave him the bowl of Cloud Dough and let him go wild.
It got pretty messy. The 9 month old ended up being stripped to his nappy as his clothes were COVERED in flour. Everything vacuumed up pretty easily too, thank goodness!!!
If you’re wondering what a suitable starting age is for Cloud Dough – I would suggest anywhere from when they can sit up (around 6 months). I found my 9 month old wasn’t really interested in trying to eat it, but if he did I wouldn’t worry as it is only flour and oil.
