Toddler Won’t Stay In His Room

Toddler Wont Stay In Room

This was my face during the night courtesy of Snapchat (happymumnz)

My 2.5 year old has started waking up in the middle of the night and not staying in his room. Last night he was up at least 10 times, walking out to the lounge (even though we were in bed).  There wasn’t anything wrong with him – he just wanted to be up.

We tried talking to him, telling him the rules about how we stay in bed until the “sun comes up” (we have a Gro Clock). But it didn’t work.

He has never done this before, but in the last week it is becoming more and more frequent and we are over it.

Like I said above, we have spoken to him at the time. Gotten on his level and told him how important it is to stay in his room until it’s time to get up in the morning.

After talking didn’t work, the yelling starts. Because at 1am, the frustration of a child not listening gets to us.

Then the yelling doesn’t work, and we are at a loss for what to do.

We don’t shut our kids’ doors completely at night – we just leave them ajar slightly so that they can come out if they need to. My girl NEVER came out unnecessarily, so now that my boy is, we are re-thinking it.

In fact, last night we shut the door completely.

Any advice in this situation would be greatly appreciated. We feel like we have tried everything. We have a Gro-Clock, which has successfully worked for a long time now.

Have you been in this situation before? What have you found helps?
